Longarm Quilting Service

The backing for your quilt will need to be at least 6 inches larger than your quilt top in both directions.  For example, if the quilt is 70 by 90 inches, the backing will need to be a minimum of 76 inches by 96 inches.  Please don’t be stingy, because I need this extra to “square up” the backing so it will load straight on the quilting frame.   Wide width fabrics can come off the bolt quite skewed, so it’s a good idea to allow extra for this.

If your backing is pieced, please use a half inch seam and remove the inner selvedge. The selvedge will shrink at a different rate to the rest of the backing when you wash the quilt.  After all your hard work piecing the top you wouldn’t want that.

As what goes on the back of your quilt is a personal choice, most customers prefer to supply their own backing fabric.  If I have to seam your backing together for you, I will charge £7 for a matched seam, £5 for an unmatched one.

Wide width backing fabrics, cotton quilting fabric the same weight as you used in your quilt top and calico are good choices for your backing.  If you would like to discuss your backing choices, or are unsure if your backing is suitable, please contact me.
